Pilot Training

The sky’s the limit! Become a pilot with Lake Country Airways.

  • Recreational Pilot Permit

A recreational pilot license is a type of certificate that is designed for those who want to fly small aircraft mainly for fun and near their local area. Obtaining a recreational pilot certificate allows you to fly solo or with one other passenger in a single-engine aircraft.

  • Private Pilot License

A Private Pilot License (PPL) is a type of pilot license that allows the holder to act as pilot in command of an aircraft privately, not for remuneration. Private pilots are trained to navigate small aircraft by themselves with no airport bounce restrictions.

  • VFR Over the Top Rating

The VFR OTT Rating allows you to fly your aircraft with all of the privileges of your Private Pilot Licence, but above the clouds as well. You can't fly through them, but if the weather is good at both ends of the flight you can fly above them!

  • Night Rating

A night rating allows a pilot to fly at night using visual flight rules. It is non-expiring and does not require a ground school. A night rating can be obtained more easily during the fall and winter, when the nights are longer.

  • Instrument Flight Rating (IFR)

An Instrument Flight rating allows pilots to fly under instrument flight rules (IFR), enabling navagation and flight operations in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) using aircraft instruments rather than relying on visual references.
